History: Founded on December 6, 2014.

The Presidents of Kazakhstan and France, Nursultan Nazarbayev and François Hollande, took part in the grand opening ceremony of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute, created on the basis of cooperation between KazNPU named after Abai and Sorbonne University Paris Cité (Université Sorbonne-Paris-Cité).

On May 10, 2024, in the presence of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abai signed a significant agreement with the official representative of the University of Lorraine.

The opening of the University of Lorraine branch on the basis of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute took place on December 10, 2024

One of the main goals of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute is to develop higher education in Central Asia in French through programs specially adapted to the modern needs and realities of the labor market.

The faculty of the institute includes both Kazakh professors and scientists from leading French universities.

Master's degree - 49 students
Doctoral degree - 5 students

The Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute trains specialists in 21 educational programs

Doctoral degree - 2 programs

In addition, three joint double-degree educational programs are being implemented:

- "International Law" with the University of Lorraine (Université de Lorraine);
- "Economics" with the University of Poitiers (Université de Poitiers);
- "International Relations" with the National Institute of Oriental Languages ​​and Cultures (INALCO).
