AN INTELLECTUAL COMPETITION NAMED AFTER NEMAT KELIMBETOV

As part of the Decade of Science, a series of notable events continued with an intellectual competition in the field of philology. Organized in honor of the renowned Turkologist-scholar Nemat Kelimbetov, the contest became a prestigious academic challenge for students majoring in "Kazakh Language and Literature." Six teams participated in the competition, representing Sherkhan Murtaza International Taraz University, SDU University, Kazakh National Women's Teacher Training University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhetysu University named after Ilyas Zhansugurov, and Abai University.

The competition comprised three stages, each assessing the participants' comprehensive knowledge. In the first round, students answered questions from thematic blocks such as "Great Names," "Nemat Kelimbetov," "Words Speak," "Turkic World — United," and "Miscellaneous." During the second stage, participants demonstrated logic and resourcefulness by identifying proverbs and sayings hidden in images.

The final stage, titled "Interesting...," encouraged students to look beyond philology and delve into the history of the nation and the Turkic world. Topics included ancient Turkic words, pseudonyms, word etymology, the historical significance of the Baku Kurultai, Kazakh-Kyrgyz brotherhood, and fascinating facts from sports and art. According to the results, the first place was awarded to the "Umai" team (SDU), the second place went to the "Parasat" group (Al-Farabi KazNU), and the third place was secured by the "Tumar" team (Women's University). The teams "Prime," "Aisha Bibi," and "Zhas Turkiler" received letters of appreciation and gifts.

At the conclusion, jury member and Doctor of Philology Sherubai Kurmanbaiuly shared his encouragement: "In the pursuit of knowledge, both luck and preparation play their part. We see the future of the Kazakh language, literature, and Turkology in your eyes. Continue to serve your country and the Turkic world. May your future be bright!".
