A ROUNDTABLE DEDICATED TO THE 1916 NATIONAL LIBERATION UPRISING WAS HELD

In commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the formidable events of the 1916 uprising, an educational and historical roundtable was held this year. This dialogue platform, organized as part of the "Science Decade – 2026," focused on analyzing the historical events of that period using newly discovered archival documents.

The keynote speaker, Academician Mambet Koigeldiev, shared fresh scientific findings regarding the 1916 uprising within the context of Alikhan Bokeikhanov’s updated historical profile in modern historiography. He strongly emphasized the need for higher and secondary educational institutions to actively integrate materials from classified funds that have been brought into scientific circulation in recent years.

The event hosted school teachers and students. In this regard, Zabira Myrzatayeva, head of the "Oral History" (Aitylgan Tarih) research laboratory at the AbaiLABS Science and Innovation Park, advocated for including the activities of Khan Abdigapar Zhanbosynov – the leader of the 1916 Turgai Uprising in school textbooks. The researcher called for a departure from outdated Soviet stereotypes and provided a comprehensive analysis, based on concrete documents, of the fate of the Zhanbosynov dynasty, who were victims of imperial oppression-initially under Tsarist rule and subsequently through Soviet repressions.

Further insights were shared by Ayazhan Nuken, history teacher at School-Gymnasium №123 named after Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, along with 9th-grade students Aiyaru Baidakhmet and Inzhu Kadyrbek and Ainur Zholdasbek, history teacher at Secondary School № 2 in Abai village, along with 10th-grade students Zhanel Alimzhankeze end Dina Dastsnkyzy.

Associate Professor Yerkin Yermukanov, a lecturer on the 1916 uprising, analyzed critical information from that period based on archival records. Young researcher and doctoral student Lashyn Abdildinova presented substantive and compelling arguments concerning education and enlightenment during the years of the national liberation movement.

The event saw active participation from professors, history faculty, students, and postgraduates, who received comprehensive answers to their inquiries. Following the discussion, a resolution was made to submit the presented proposals to the relevant government bodies and authorities.
