LECTURE BY ACADEMICIAN MAMBET KOYGELDIEV
As part of the Science Decade at Abai University, a lecture was delivered by the prominent historian and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Mambet Koygeldiev. The lecture, titled "The State Idea in the Creative Work and Activities of Writers in the First Quarter of the 20th Century," was attended by university leadership, faculty members, and students.
During the session, Mambet Koygeldiev conducted a comparative analysis of the works of Alash-oriented writers and those following the direction of socialist realism. He provided a historical evaluation of the pro-statehood stances held by Magzhan Zhumabaev and Zhusipbek Aimauytov. Specifically, he discussed Zhumabaev’s programmatic work "Alqa. Tabaldyryq," which, though not officially published at the time, circulated in manuscript form. Written in 1924, this work is recognized as the ideological platform for the intended "Alqa" organization and a manifesto against neo-colonialism.
The academician noted that while early 20th-century European writers sought to define the role of literature during times of change through various manifestos, very few figures within the Soviet Union at that time managed to draft such programmatic manifestos. In this work, Magzhan laid the conceptual foundation for Kazakh literature in a transitional era, emphasizing that writers should move beyond mere slogans.
Furthermore, the lecture presented new findings regarding the poem "Tez Olmen," attributed to Zhusipbek Aimauytov. According to archival records, the publicist wrote this poem while under interrogation in prison. Consisting of three parts and following the traditional poetic style of the 1920s, the work reflects Aimauytov’s state-building ideas and his indomitable spirit.
Bolat Tilep, Chairman of the Board and Rector of Abai University, expressed his gratitude to Academician Mambet Koygeldiev for the insightful lecture. The Rector highlighted the immense value for students in learning directly from such a distinguished scholar, noting that the Academician’s scientific conclusions serve as a guiding light for young researchers. Gabit Kenzhebaev, Dean of the Faculty of History and Law, remarked on the continuity of the two disciplines in national spirituality, stating: "History and literature are like the two strings of a dombra; they always go together." Historian Gizatulla Khalidullin also expressed his appreciation and donated books to the students.
