AN EVENT HELD TO MARK WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY

As part of the Science Decade, a significant event was held at Abai University to commemorate April 2nd — World Autism Awareness Day. Specialists from the Department of Special Education and the Department of Additional Inclusive Education of Schoolchildren's House No. 7 in Almaty drew public attention to the issue of autism. This campaign aims to mobilize educators and experienced professionals to contribute to the creation of a barrier-free inclusive environment in Kazakhstan.

The event was organized in a networking format, featuring two thematic interactive stations. The first station, "Support Spectrum: Myths and Facts about ASD," showcased statistics on the prevalence of autism in Kazakhstan and globally. Organizers conducted educational games and quizzes to engage the public. The interactive "Myth or Fact" game helped dispel common misconceptions surrounding autism, with participants receiving sweet rewards.

At the second station, "Support Spectrum: ABA and TEACCH Methods," modern scientific approaches were introduced. Experienced specialists from Schoolchildren's House No. 7 elaborated on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and the specifics of structured teaching under the TEACCH program. The exhibition of specialized toys, developmental tools, and methodological books garnered significant interest, providing insight into how children with special needs perceive the world.

Additionally, express interviews were conducted during the event to assess public awareness of ASD. Information leaflets were distributed, covering the nature of autism, myths vs. facts, and methods for stimulating child development.

To promote social unity and kindness, a "Wall of Support" was established. Students and faculty left heartfelt messages such as: "The mother of a child with ASD is a true hero!", "Dear parents, thank you for your hard work for your children!", and "Autism is not a verdict."

Such initiatives undoubtedly contribute to the formation of a truly inclusive society where the dignity and individuality of every person are respected.
