SCIENCE DECADE: TOP-TIME SEMINAR AND INNOVATIVE PROJECTS EXHIBITION
Today,
within the framework of the Science Decade, a seminar dedicated to the ethical
and responsible application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education and
science was held at the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after
Abai. The main goal of the event is not only the effective assimilation of
advanced technologies but also the formation of a culture of conscientious use
of AI in the educational process.
The
Science Decade is traditionally held annually at the university. The events are
timed to coincide with Science Worker's Day, celebrated in Kazakhstan on April
12, giving special depth to the holiday. Within the framework of the decade,
the university aims to strengthen ties with schools, opening the path to
scientific research for students and supporting their innovative ideas.
Increasing the interest of the younger generation in science has been
identified as one of the key directions.
One
of the most important meetings during the decade was the "top-time"
seminar by Sheripidin Khamraev, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics,
and Informatics, titled "Ethical Application of Artificial Intelligence in
Higher Education and Science: Principles of Academic Integrity." The
seminar featured substantive presentations for students and faculty regarding
the use of AI in education.
Yertai
Sultan, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at Abai University, emphasized
the significance of the science decade, paying special attention to its
importance for young researchers. He noted that artificial intelligence is
rapidly developing today and has become one of the leading directions in the
technological sphere. Furthermore, he reminded that the timely use of new
opportunities is a requirement of the times.
The
meeting also discussed the development path of artificial intelligence and its
current capabilities. Sheripidin Khamraev, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics,
Physics, and Informatics, thoroughly explained the legal foundations and usage
procedures in this field. According to him, the application of AI in scientific
works should not exceed certain limits, and most importantly, copyright must be
respected. These requirements do not weaken but rather aim to develop the
learner's independent thinking abilities.
Additionally,
the meeting broadly addressed issues such as correct citation of sources when
using artificial intelligence and the culture of establishing authorship for
prompts, signifying respect for intellectual property. Participants were
explained that AI should be viewed solely as an auxiliary tool, as no matter
how advanced the technology becomes, it can never replace human critical
thinking and responsibility.
–
Artificial intelligence has been developing since the middle of the last
century. It has only gained widespread use in the last three years. However,
even now, it is difficult to consider it a fully perfected system. The database
of artificial intelligence is updated daily, and its capabilities are
constantly expanding. By effectively utilizing these opportunities, success can
be achieved. The most important thing is to use it correctly and responsibly.
For example, today many auxiliary tools work through special prompts. In this
regard, the development of prompts is also considered as authorship, and there
is an opportunity to patent them as an object of intellectual property, – the dean noted.
Cybersecurity
issues were also not overlooked at the meeting. Aspects of preventing risks
arising from the use of artificial intelligence, data protection, and
compliance with legal requirements were comprehensively discussed. Conducting
explanatory work in this area is important for all students and faculty.
This
meeting revealed new facets of the ethical and conscious application of AI in
education and science. In an era where science and technology develop in
parallel, such meaningful exchanges of opinions will undoubtedly contribute to
improving the quality of education and strengthening the responsibility of
young researchers.
It
is worth noting that several other large-scale events were also held today as
part of the decade. For instance, the "Bolashak Fest: Science Without
Borders" platform for experience exchange – specialists who have undergone
internships and received education in foreign universities shared advanced
technologies and ideas in international education. The EcoChem Innovation:
Young Startuppers platform – was of great benefit to students who prepared
scientific startup projects with a new perspective. The exhibition of
innovative projects showcased scientific projects by students aimed at solving
pressing environmental issues.
