THE LEGACY OF UZAKBAI KULYUMBETOV WAS CELEBRATED
This year marks the 135th anniversary of the birth of Uzakbai
Kulyumbetov, an honored figure of Alash, a prominent statesman and public
figure, and a victim of political repression. In this regard, a scientific and
educational round table titled "Honored Figures of Alash and the Idea of
Kazakh Statehood" was held at Abai University. The educational meeting was
organized as part of the "Science Decade – 2026," where
representatives of domestic science examined the historical figure's service to
the nation's interests from a modern perspective.
During the event, an exhibition of rare publications and archival
materials dedicated to the works of Alash figures was presented. The meeting
was opened by Yerlai Sultan, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation at the
university, who emphasized the importance of reviving historical consciousness
and scientifically studying the legacy of national intellectuals.
At the fruitful discussion, Academician Mambet Koygeldiev analyzed the
statesman's political stance and his role in nation-building based on new data,
offering a fresh assessment of his civic character. In his report, Academician
Khankeldi Abzhanov focused on the final stage of the figure's life,
highlighting his resilience during the years of repression and his unwavering
loyalty to national interests with concrete evidence.
Researcher Svetlana Smagulova, in her speech, presented a comparative
analysis of the contributions of Uzakbai Kulyumbetov and Turar Zhamankulov to
the country's development. She systematically described their managerial roles
in industry, infrastructure, and the formation of the nation's capital. Gulshat
Nurymbetova addressed the impact of political repression on society, profoundly
conveying the devastating consequences of the historical period on family life.
A young scientist and university Master's student, Bayan Serikkyzy,
presented her innovative dissertation work titled "Promoting a Historical
Figure through a Modern Digital Platform: The Case of Uzakbai
Kulyumbetov." The young researcher's project highlighted the relevance of
popularizing historical heritage in the digital space and aimed to present the
statesman's life and work in a modern format. This project was assessed as an
effective tool for promoting science by combining traditional methods of studying
historical figures with new digital technologies.
The round table concluded with a meaningful report titled "A
Testament to Posterity" by Orynscha Karabalina, the daughter
of Uzakbai Kulyumbetov. She shared her father's service to the country and his
fate of injustice, speaking passionately about the importance for today's
generation to know historical truth and defend national interests. She
emphasized that not forgetting the heroism and patriotism of the honored
figures of Alash is the foundation for building the nation's future.
The meaningful gathering provided a new impetus for a deeper
understanding of national history, systematic study of the Alash legacy, and
strengthening national consciousness. Scientific meetings held within the
university walls not only revive historical memory but also serve as a
foundation for shaping a responsible, sharp-minded, and spiritually strong
younger generation.
