RENEWAL DAY – LIFE FLOURISHING ALONGSIDE NATURE

With the first breath of spring, nature begins its transformation, and the entire earth takes a fresh breath. For the Kazakh people, this season is a symbol of renewal, modernization, and rebirth. According to the "Nauryznama" schedule, today, March 19, is Renewal Day. This day serves as a special reminder of the profound harmony between humanity and nature, as well as our shared environmental responsibility.

Our ancestors considered it a duty to clean their surroundings, clear natural springs, and plant trees as soon as spring arrived. Proverbial wisdom, such as the idea that if you cut one tree you should plant ten, or that leaving a forest for future generations is better than leaving wealth, highlights a deep-seated respect for the environment. This tradition remains vital today and is actively supported at the state level.

In Kazakhstan, Renewal Day is marked by mass tree-planting campaigns. This is a significant step toward ensuring the country's green development and strengthening ecological culture. The nationwide "Taza Qazaqstan" (Clean Kazakhstan) campaign, initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, widely promotes these ideas: keeping our surroundings clean and increasing green spaces is a common responsibility for us all.

At Abai University, this tradition is revitalized every year. On the eve of Renewal Day, the university community traditionally organizes landscaping and greening events. The total area of academic buildings and dormitories covers 90,000 square meters. Within this territory, administrative staff, professors, and students work together to plant tree saplings, contributing to the greening of the campus and the formation of environmental awareness among the youth.

The university's Agrobiostation is a crucial base where students refine their theoretical knowledge through practice. Spanning 40 hectares, the agrobiostation saw the planting of nearly a hundred trees upon its opening, demonstrating its scientific potential. Since then, new saplings have been planted every spring, and the university grounds continue to grow greener. Furthermore, students participate annually in tree-planting campaigns at the "Ile-Alatau" National Park. These activities promote nature conservation and help young people establish a direct connection with the environment.

This is a season for the renewal of not just the land, but the human spirit as well. Every sapling planted today is a shaded garden for tomorrow, a legacy for future generations, and a sign of the joint flourishing of nature and society. Renewal Day is not only about the awakening of nature; it is a time for our own internal renewal and for increasing our environmental accountability. Every tree planted is a beacon of hope for the future and a tangible expression of care for the world around us.
