THE NEW CONSTITUTION BECAME THE TOPIC OF DEBATE

On February 21–22, Abai University hosted the XXIV Republican Atameken Cup debate tournament titled “Renewal with the Constitution” within the framework of the “Adal Azamat” principle, where the winners were determined. It had previously been reported that 70 teams from higher education institutions of the Almaty region, Shymkent, Turkistan, Taraz, Karaganda, and the city of Almaty took part in the competition.

The intellectual contest was dedicated to supporting the new Constitution and promoting a deeper understanding of the principles of a rule-of-law state among young people. At the opening ceremony, Bolat Tilep, Chairman of the Board and Rector of Abai KazNPU and a member of the national coalition “For the People’s Constitution of a Just and Progressive Kazakhstan!”, noted that the debate tournament contributes to shaping young people’s civic stance regarding the new Constitution.

 – The topic of this competition is deep and complex; it is being discussed by the entire country. The nation’s leading scholars, experts, and lawyers are analyzing the new Constitution and presenting it to the public. Therefore, the title “Renewal with the Constitution” is no coincidence. I believe this will enhance the intellectual knowledge of young people. I wish you all success and continued achievements for the prosperity of the country, – said Bolat Anapiyauly.

During the two-day debates, students discussed amendments to the Constitution and other pressing issues in the American Parliamentary Format (APF). These included opinions on the new Constitution, modernization of the electoral system through reforms, strengthening the public role of the People’s Council, preventing divorce within the family institution, and teenagers’ use of social media. Proposals were also made regarding granting legal status to special regions, evaluating volunteerism as a civic duty, and applying artificial intelligence in the education system.

According to the tournament results, in the Teachers’ League (APF), first place was awarded to Daulet Myrzakulov (Al-Farabi KazNU) and Nurzhan Ongarov (SDU) from the “Raddan” faction. Second place went to the “Zhayau Musa” team (Al-Farabi KazNU), and third place was awarded to the “Danq” faction (KazNational Women’s Pedagogical University). The “Best Effort” nomination was given to the “Flashback” faction (Al-Farabi KazNU).

In the Students’ League, first place was won by the “Rafi” faction. Second place went to the “Ozingnen kor” team, while third place was shared by the “Rodeo” and “Arman Velikolepny” factions. In the overall tournament standings, Abdurakhim Konarbayuly won the “Best Speaker” nomination.
