ABAI UNIVERSITY HOSTS MEETING WITH MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL COALITION
Members of the Almaty City National Coalition “For the People’s Constitution of a Just and Progressive Kazakhstan” met with the faculty of Abai University to discuss the upcoming nationwide referendum and the key amendments proposed in the new Constitution.
Among the participants were Chair of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Aigul Kuspan, Chair of the Almaty City Maslikhat and head of the city coalition Meirzhan Otynshiyev, Chair of the Almaty branch of the youth organization “Zhastar Rukhy” Didarbek Dildabek, Chair of the Medeu district branch of the Amanat Party Yerzhan Medeuov, as well as members of the university’s leadership and academic staff.
Opening the meeting, Yerzhan Medeuov emphasized that the upcoming referendum is a historic event that will shape the future course of Kazakhstan’s development. He encouraged faculty and students to take an active civic stance and make an informed choice.
Member of Parliament Aigul Seifollakyzy described the Constitution as the country’s main development manifesto and highlighted the importance of its preamble. According to her, the introductory part of the Basic Law reflects the historical continuity and spiritual heritage of the Great Steppe, echoing Tauke Khan’s “Zheti Zhargy.”
Meirzhan Otynshiyev spoke about the process of updating the Constitution and noted that the document was originally drafted in the Kazakh language, which adds particular significance to it. The new version focuses on the development of education and science, support for innovation, and the protection of human rights in the digital sphere. He called on participants to carefully study the document and form their own well-informed opinions.
Doctoral student of Abai University and Chair of the Almaty city organization “Zhastar Rukhy,” Didarbek Dildabek, stressed the importance of transitioning from a resource-based model to an intellectual economy.
“Today, the world is advancing through knowledge and science. If we aspire to join the ranks of developed nations, we must prioritize education and innovation. The new Constitution lays the foundation for this path,” he noted, urging everyone to actively participate in the referendum.
The city coalition includes nearly 200 representatives who conduct outreach and information campaigns across Almaty. Their main goal is to foster open public dialogue and ensure that every citizen has the opportunity to consciously participate in shaping the country’s future.
