СОСТОЯЛАСЬ ЛЕКЦИЯ О ПРАВОВОЙ ГРАМОТНОСТИ В ИНТЕРНЕТЕ
The growing number of offenses committed on social media highlights the increasing importance of discipline and responsibility in the digital space. In this context, Abai University hosted a legal lecture today as part of the “Adal Azamat” (“Honest Citizen”) project, titled “Legal Literacy as a Lifelong Protection.” The event aimed to enhance students’ legal awareness and promote responsible behavior in the media environment.
During the lecture, legal expert and PhD holder Bakytzhan Saparov provided a detailed overview of legal responsibility in social networks. He explained that any action in the online space — whether posting a comment, sharing content, or even clicking a “like” — may entail certain legal consequences. According to the speaker, insults, defamation, dissemination of false information, incitement to violence, as well as provoking social, ethnic, or religious hatred are subject to liability under the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He also elaborated on Article 14 of the Law “On Online Platforms and Online Advertising,” outlining specific types of unlawful content.
“Even contributing to the distribution of an illegal video or post on social media may result in administrative liability. Young people, in particular, often make mistakes by sharing religious content without relying on credible sources. Ignorance of the law does not exempt one from responsibility; therefore, it is essential to approach every online action consciously and responsibly,” emphasized Bakytzhan Zholdybayevich.
The speaker analyzed recent cases of social media offenses and reviewed the list of materials and publications recognized as extremist and prohibited for distribution. Students raised questions regarding cyberbullying, harassment, and online stalking, receiving legal clarification within the framework of current legislation. The lecture openly addressed pressing issues of personal safety in the digital era.
