A SIGNIFICANT MEETING IN CHUNCHEON – THE BEGINNING OF FUTURE PARTNERSHIP

From January 8 to 14, an international training program for higher education institutions of Central Asian countries was held at Kangwon National University (KNU) in South Korea. A special delegation from Abai University took part in the program. Undoubtedly, this event is of great importance for exchanging professional experience, strengthening international cooperation, and improving educational programs at the university.


The international event was attended by representatives of Abai University: N. Oshanova, Director of the Department for Educational Program Analysis: U.Quiakbayeva, Head of the Department of Preschool Education and Social Pedagogy; and E. Burmistrova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Eastern Philology and Translation. The delegation became thoroughly acquainted with modern trends in the South Korean higher education system. During the training, participants exchanged experience on mechanisms for attracting international students, the operation of preparatory departments, implementation of double-degree and joint educational programs (1+3, 2+2, 3+1), instruction in English and Korean, the TOPIK assessment system, as well as teaching practices in EMI and CLIL formats. These areas are particularly important for strengthening the university’s internationalization process and expanding academic mobility.

 


Within the framework of the program, various bilateral activities were conducted in different areas. Cultural and historical tours and meetings with representatives of local authorities were organized, highlighting the deepening educational and cultural ties between Korea and the countries of Central Asia.

 

On January 13, an official meeting was held in the city of Chuncheon between the Abai University delegation, the Mayor of the city Yuk Dong Han, and representatives of the city administration. During the meeting, issues related to the university’s international activities, academic mobility programs, and opportunities for implementing double-degree and joint educational programs were discussed. The parties paid special attention to expanding cooperation with higher education institutions in Chuncheon, exchanging students and faculty, and implementing joint scientific and educational projects.

 


The city leadership was thanked for the warm welcome, and commemorative gifts were presented on behalf of Abai University. These gifts were regarded as symbols of mutual respect and future partnership.

 


The international training program held at KNU laid a solid foundation for the development of double-degree and joint educational projects, as well as for elevating academic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Korea to a new level.
