CURRENT ISSUES AND NEW PRIORITIES DISCUSSED
Meetings between Bolat Tilep, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Abai University, and the University’s academic staff and employees are continuing. The latest meeting was held with the teams of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute and the branch of the University of Lorraine. The discussion focused on the University’s current activities and its future development priorities.
This year, the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute at Abai University marked its 12th anniversary. Since its establishment, the Institute has been introducing best practices from the European higher education system and helping students enhance their professional competencies in an international academic environment. Currently, more than 1,300 students are enrolled in 21 academic programmes. In addition, three double-degree programmes are being implemented in partnership with French higher education institutions. The Institute’s international partners include the University of Lorraine, the University of Poitiers and the INALCO Institute.
During the meeting, Ainur Sabitova, Director of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute, presented an overview of the Institute’s current operations, ongoing activities and future development priorities. She also put forward several proposals, including initiatives to expand international cooperation. Bolat Anapiyauly, Chairman of the Board – Rector, supported the proposals, outlined specific objectives and assigned relevant tasks to the responsible officials.
Particular attention was paid to strengthening the University’s international partnerships and creating favourable conditions for students. As part of cooperation with European countries, the University plans to expand academic mobility opportunities for students and academic staff. It also intends to increase the number of double-degree programmes aimed at further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
It is worth noting that the programmes offering students the opportunity to earn degrees from both universities are delivered in accordance with the higher education standards of Kazakhstan and France. This academic experience broadens graduates’ career prospects, opening up opportunities to work in international organisations, government institutions, the diplomatic service and consulting firms.
