A MEETING WITH PROSECUTORS WAS HELD
Today, Abai University hosted a meeting aimed at enhancing students’ legal awareness as part of the national “Law and Order” principle. Representatives of the Medeu District Prosecutor’s Office of Almaty visited the university to discuss the prevention of youth-related offences and issues of legal liability.
The law is the foundation of public order and a cornerstone of national unity and the country’s sustainable development. Therefore, improving legal awareness among members of society, particularly young people, and preventing offences are important priorities. To this end, first-year students met with experienced law enforcement professionals. The participants included Madiyar Manatuly, Senior Prosecutor of the Department for Supervision of the Legality of Pre-Trial Investigations and Criminal Prosecution at the Medeu District Prosecutor’s Office of Almaty; Diana Kalmakhanova, a prosecutor of the same department; and Safiyat Akhmetkyzy, a prosecutor of the Department for the Protection of Public Interests.
During the meeting, students watched short videos addressing various aspects of juvenile criminal liability. The videos were intended to help young people understand the consequences of disregarding the law and the negative impact of offences on people's lives. The prosecutors also highlighted unlawful activities that have become increasingly common in recent times, focusing in particular on stalking, fraud and money muling (dropper activity).
Stalking involves repeatedly following or harassing someone without their consent, persistently disturbing them, coercing them into contact or violating their privacy. Money muling, also known as dropper activity, involves providing one's bank card, account or payment details to third parties for use in illegal financial transactions. The speakers emphasized that such actions may result in criminal liability.
Students who plan to combine their studies with employment were also advised to exercise particular caution when applying for courier jobs. They should carefully check the contents of any delivery and avoid agreeing to transport suspicious goods, regardless of the nature of the order. Even unknowingly delivering prohibited items may lead to serious legal consequences.
The prosecutors urged young people to reject suspicious offers promising easy money and never allow others to use their bank accounts or personal data for unlawful purposes. If they encounter any illegal activity or have reason to suspect wrongdoing, they should immediately notify law enforcement authorities. At the end of the meeting, students received detailed guidance on the importance of knowing the law and taking responsibility for their personal safety in everyday life.
