INTERNATIONAL “7TH ISSYK READINGS” HELD
Today, Abai University hosted an international scientific and practical conference entitled “Current Issues in the Study and Preservation of the Golden Man Heritage: Archaeology, Archaeogenetics, Musealization, and Historical and Cultural Interpretation.” Organized as part of the traditional “7th Issyk Readings,” the event brought together researchers and scholars from Kazakhstan, China, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Türkiye, Italy, and other countries.
Aimed at conducting a comprehensive scientific study of the Golden Man heritage, discussing modern methods for researching the history of ancient civilizations, and strengthening international scientific cooperation, the conference opened with an exhibition entitled “Kazakhstan–China: Cooperation in Preserving Archaeological Heritage.”
The plenary session addressed the origins and academic significance of the Issyk inscription, ancient Turkic written monuments, and archaeological treasures of the Saka period. Particular attention was also paid to the reconstruction of the Golden Man image and the promotion of Kazakhstan’s historical heritage at the international level.
During the scientific and practical conference, Azerbaijani scholar Firudin Jalilov discussed the language of the Issyk inscription, while Chinese researcher Ding Yan examined early studies of the Wusun people based on Chinese written sources. Turkestan-based scholar Bekzhan Orynbay presented his academic perspectives on the historical and cartographic significance of the Issyk inscription. Renowned restorer Krym Altynbekov spoke about the specific features of reconstructing the Golden Man image and its cultural impact on contemporary society.
The “7th Issyk Readings” also covered the digitalization of historical and cultural heritage, the introduction of innovative technologies in museum practice, and the application of artificial intelligence. In particular, participants presented approaches to the digital study of the Orkhon–Yenisei inscriptions, the musealization of archaeological landscapes, and the preservation of cultural heritage through modern technologies.
Presentations by Abai University scholars and early-career researchers focused on integrating archaeological heritage into the education system, fostering historical awareness, and combining scientific findings with teaching practice.
The conference provided Kazakhstani and international scholars with an opportunity to exchange research experience, discuss new areas of study, and strengthen international academic ties. The international gathering continued with two thematic research sessions, featuring presentations by university scholars and staff members of the Issyk State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve.
