ISSUES IN BIOLOGICAL EDUCATION DISCUSSED

Today, a two-day international scientific and practical conference titled "Promising Directions for Researching Current Issues in Modern Biological Education" kicked off at Abai University. The event brought together representatives from Kazakhstani and international higher education institutions, research organizations, scientists, educators, school teachers, and young researchers.

The international conference is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the distinguished scientist, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Zhumadil Shildebayev. Opening the gathering, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Banu Narbekova emphasized the vital role of scientific research, international exchange of experience, and the continuity between education and science in advancing biological education. She delivered a congratulatory letter to the anniversary celebrant on behalf of the Chairman of the Board – Rector Bolat Tlep and awarded him the university's "Honored Veteran" badge.

During the plenary session, scholars from Kazakhstan, Türkiye, the United States, Italy, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan presented research on current trends and perspectives in biological education. Specifically, Professor Zeliha Selamoglu from Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University (Türkiye) examined the influence of environmental factors on molecular processes and epigenetics. Mudasir Ahmad Khanday, an instructor at Harvard Medical School (USA), delivered a presentation on the neural regulation of sleep and wakefulness, while Professor Sergei Sumatokhin from Moscow City University demonstrated the capabilities of artificial intelligence in digital adaptive biology textbooks. Additionally, the conference addressed topics such as climate change, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, the current state of the saiga population in Kazakhstan, modern biological plant protection methods, and strategies for enhancing the quality of science education.

Duman Aliaskarov, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography, delivered a presentation titled "A Life Dedicated to Science and Education," highlighting the scientist's academic and pedagogical career alongside his contributions to the field of education. The scientific-practical gathering also featured the "TeachLab: Best Teacher Experience" section, dedicated to professional knowledge sharing among educators. School teachers presented their practical experience utilizing Lesson Study, STEAM technologies, and artificial intelligence tools in biology instruction.

Following the plenary session, the conference split into four breakout sessions focused on pressing issues in biological education within higher and secondary education institutions, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development goals, and research by young scientists.

The international conference will continue tomorrow, concluding with the expected adoption of a special resolution. The document will outline recommendations aimed at improving the scientific and methodological foundations of biological education, disseminating leading international practices, and strengthening the integration of domestic science and education.
