PSYCHO-EMOTIONAL RESILIENCE: YOUNG PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE AFRAID TO SPEAK UP
Today, a preventive seminar and training session entitled “Students’ Psycho-Emotional Resilience: Stress Management and Crisis Prevention” was held at Abai University. The psychological seminar focused on preventing suicidal behaviour among students, raising awareness of mental health, recognising the early signs of emotional distress and stress, developing emotional resilience, and fostering a culture of seeking timely help when facing difficult life situations.
Entering university is an important milestone that opens up new opportunities for every young person. In particular, students who move from other regions to pursue their education often face various psychological challenges, including adapting to a new environment, increased academic workload, financial difficulties, and being away from their loved ones. These factors may negatively affect some young people’s emotional well-being, potentially leading to anxiety, loneliness, self-doubt, and negative thoughts. In such circumstances, Abai University is always ready to provide support.
During the training, participants discussed how to understand students’ psycho-emotional well-being, identify stressors encountered in everyday life, and learn effective ways to overcome them. Participants also answered questions based on various real-life scenarios.
The event was moderated by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Nurgaysha Kudusheva and was attended by students identified as being at risk. The speaker encouraged all young people to be open about their feelings and not to be afraid or ashamed to ask for help. Students were also provided with information on preventing emotional distress, strengthening resilience in the face of challenges, and developing the skills needed to understand and manage their feelings and emotions.
The event aimed to foster a culture of mutual support among students, reduce barriers to seeking help, and encourage them to view psychological support as a normal and positive part of student life. Such initiatives are expected to improve psychological literacy and significantly contribute to young people’s adaptation to the academic environment.
At the end of the event, participants received business cards containing the contact information of the Psychological Support Service. Students who have questions or concerns related to these issues can reach out to the service at any time.
The Psychological Support Service of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University systematically implements preventive initiatives to strengthen students’ psychological well-being, prevent suicidal behaviour, identify psychological difficulties at an early stage, and create a safe and supportive learning environment.
It is worth noting that, according to specialists from the Psychological Support Service, 207 students have received individual consultations since the beginning of 2026. These consultations have helped the students who sought professional assistance address their concerns and find solutions to their problems.
