INTERNATIONAL FORUM FOCUSES ON CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND TEACHER PROFESSIONALISM
Today, Abai University hosted an international scientific and practical Open Space forum entitled “The Child’s Personality and Teacher Professionalism: Fundamental and Applied Research in Early Childhood Education.”
The event aimed to discuss current issues in early childhood education, explore the scientific and pedagogical foundations of child development, and identify ways to incorporate the latest research findings into educational practice. The international platform brought together experts to discuss improving the quality of early childhood education, supporting children’s development in accordance with their individual needs, strengthening teachers’ professional competencies, and introducing innovative approaches to the educational process. Particular attention was also given to applying the findings of fundamental and applied research in practice and strengthening cooperation between educational research institutions and early childhood education providers.
Children today begin processing information at an earlier age than previous generations, adapt quickly to digital environments, ask questions, and seek to express their thoughts freely. Their speech, thinking, imagination, communication skills, and ability to regulate their emotions also have distinctive characteristics. These changes place new demands on early childhood educators. What knowledge and tools do teachers need to identify children’s developmental characteristics at an early stage, nurture their abilities, and prevent potential difficulties? What qualities should a modern early childhood educator possess? During the Open Space forum, specialists delivered presentations addressing these questions. Kazakhstani and international researchers and educators shared their experience and put forward practical recommendations for improving early childhood education. The programme included a scientific and methodological exhibition, plenary and focus sessions, and a master class.
As part of the Open Space initiative, the “USHQYN LAB” research and innovation laboratory was opened at Nursery School No. 187. The laboratory aims to bridge scientific research and everyday practice in early childhood education.
The event was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Ulbosyn Kyyakbayeva, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences and Associate Professor. Bolat Tilep, Chairman of the Board and Rector of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, extended his congratulations to the honouree, who was also presented with the “Abai” badge of distinction. A congratulatory letter from Shynar Akparova, Vice Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as messages from the heads of several higher education institutions across the country, were read out. The honouree also received gifts.
One of the key priorities of modern early childhood education is to support children’s personal development while fostering their cognitive abilities, creative potential, and social skills. In this regard, teachers’ professional expertise, research-informed methodological training, and ability to recognise each child’s individual characteristics are particularly important. Addressing these priorities effectively requires the wider application of pedagogical methods, continuous professional development for early childhood educators, and the introduction of innovative technologies.
The international scientific and practical Open Space forum provided an opportunity to discuss pressing issues in the field, exchange professional experience, and explore effective solutions aimed at improving the quality of early childhood education.
