ABAI UNIVERSITY BRINGS TWO CELEBRATIONS TOGETHER
Today marks the birthday of Abai University. All faculties of the university celebrated this special occasion with a rich and diverse programme. The landmark day of this nearly century-old institution coincided with the Day of Higher Education Workers of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In this regard, the day featured meaningful meetings bringing together faculty members and students, educational activities, and leadership lectures.
As part of the festive programme, the university’s scholars and experienced faculty members delivered lectures for students on leadership, professional experiences, and the importance of education and science. In particular, a meeting was held with Amantai Karakul, a prominent figure in Kazakhstani sports, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences and Professor. The event highlighted the distinguished figure’s inspiring life journey and his contribution to KazNPU. Amantai Karakul also shared interesting stories from his years of work at the university. This year, he celebrates his 80th anniversary. At the end of the meeting, the university presented the distinguished guest with a special gift.
The programme also featured a
special meeting-benefit entitled “A Wise Nation: From Books to Science”,
bringing together scholars, faculty members and students. Renowned scholar,
historian and Professor Bolat Sagidollauuly met with students and shared
thoughtful reflections on spiritual values and the culture of reading.
In his speech, the professor
placed particular emphasis on the importance of making informed choices when
selecting books in today’s information environment. He noted that not every
book with an attractive cover and strong market demand generated by advertising
is necessarily meaningful or of high quality. Readers, he stressed, should
first and foremost be able to distinguish and evaluate a book’s substance, as
well as its academic and educational value.
The historian also recalled how, during their student years, they read books with great enthusiasm, sometimes even competing with one another, and expressed concern that a similar passion for reading appears to be gradually declining among young people today. For this reason, he encouraged students to visit the university library more often, noting its rich collection of books.
There is a well-known saying by
Gabit Musrepov: “Kazakhs have much to make up for in education. Study for your
grandfather, study for your father, and study for yourself.” Guided by this
motto, another meeting was held today with Kaster Sarkytkan, Associate
Professor at Abai University, Candidate of Economic and Social Geography,
Professor, writer and poet.
Having worked within the walls of the university for 28 years, the scholar encouraged young people to develop a passion for learning and uphold the principles of academic integrity. Students who attended the meeting had the opportunity to exchange views with the author of several books and receive answers to their questions.
A birthday is a special moment
that is not only an opportunity to pay tribute to the past, but also a time to
take a step towards the future with new goals. The staff and students of Abai
University continued the longstanding traditions of their alma mater and
identified shared goals aimed at reaching new heights in education and science.
It should be noted that the events dedicated to the birthday of Abai University and the Day of Higher Education Workers will continue tomorrow.
