On the eve of Abai University’s anniversary, another piece of good news has arrived. According to the results of the «Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027» (THE WUR 2027), the university has entered the ranks of leading institutions, achieving a significant result.

    On September 30, 2026, the results of one of the world’s most prestigious university rankings, the «Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2027» (THE WUR 2027), were published. Abai University entered the ranking for the first time, placing in the 2001+ group. This is one of the important results of the university’s systematic efforts to enhance its international academic recognition, improve the quality of education, strengthen its research capacity, and expand international cooperation.

    Among the 11 Kazakhstani higher education institutions included in the «THE WUR 2027» ranking, Abai University ranked 6th, placing among the TOP 10 universities in Kazakhstan. In addition, the university became the only pedagogical university in Kazakhstan represented in the main «THE WUR 2027» global ranking. This achievement demonstrates the dynamic development of the university’s longstanding traditions in teacher education, as well as its modern research and educational capacity.

    Abai University’s first inclusion in this prestigious ranking is an important indicator that its development priorities are aligned with international standards in education and research. In recent years, the university has placed particular emphasis on modernizing its educational programmes and introducing advanced digital technologies into the educational process.

    The 2027 ranking includes 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories, 106 more institutions than in the previous year. Thus, the «THE World University Rankings 2027» represents the largest edition in the history of the ranking. Kazakhstan’s participation also reached a record level. A total of 42 higher education institutions from the country submitted their data for evaluation. As a result, 11 institutions received specific positions in the global ranking, while another 31 universities were listed as Reporters.

    Times Higher Education evaluates universities comprehensively across five key areas: «Teaching», «Research Environment», «Research Quality», «Industry» and «International Outlook».

    Abai University’s inclusion in the «THE World University Rankings 2027» is an important milestone that opens up new international opportunities for the university. This result demonstrates the continuity of systematic efforts in the field of academic management.
