The "UI GreenMetric World University Rankings – 2026" evaluates higher education institutions on their commitment and actions toward environmental sustainability, environmental protection, energy conservation, and sustainable development. The ranking features 2,016 universities from 110 countries.

This year, 271 new universities joined the global ranking. A total of 41 universities from Kazakhstan entered the ranking, with Abai University taking 4th place among domestic higher education institutions.

Starting this year, updates were introduced to the international ranking’s evaluation methodology, assessing institutions across 7 key criteria: Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, Education and Research, and Governance and Digitalization. This new approach enables a comprehensive evaluation of universities' infrastructure solutions, ecological initiatives, educational activities, and research in sustainable development.

This achievement further highlights Abai University's leadership among the nation’s leading educational institutions in implementing environmental initiatives and advanced digital technologies. Furthermore, it demonstrates the university's strong commitment to global environmental responsibility in creating a green campus, conserving energy, and managing waste effectively.
