Today, Abai University hosted a master class entitled «Formalistic Compositions of the Surface Layer» led by Mitat Kandemir, a researcher from Selçuk University who arrived specially from Türkiye. The main purpose of the event was to develop students’ creative abilities, introduce them to contemporary art trends, and provide an opportunity for international professional exchange.

Mitat Kandemir is a scholar recognized in Türkiye as a researcher in the field of art. He is currently an experienced specialist and lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Selçuk University. His professional and academic work covers such areas as traditional Turkish crafts, embroidery techniques, decorative and applied arts, handicraft design, cultural heritage and traditional culture, ethnographic objects and traditional motifs, the integration of traditional crafts with contemporary design, computer embroidery and digital design, souvenir products and cultural objects, as well as crafts for children.

The lecturer, who presented examples of imagery inspired by Turkic motifs, has made a significant contribution to the fields of handicrafts and visual arts. He is the author of the scholarly works «Çocuklar İçin Kanaviçe İğne Teknikleri», «Aladağ'ın İncisi Derbent» and «El Sanatları Araştırmaları». The researcher has also served as the responsible editor of several scholarly books and collections.

During the master class held at the Faculty of Arts, Mitat Kandemir discussed the distinctive features of surface-layer compositions and provided a practical explanation of the importance of space, line, and structure in works of art. Faculty members and students reinforced their theoretical knowledge through practical creative assignments and developed compositional solutions themselves. Such international master classes not only broaden students’ professional horizons but also undoubtedly contribute to strengthening creative and academic ties between higher education institutions in Kazakhstan and abroad.

Abai University has established bilateral agreements with several universities in Türkiye in the field of arts. Cooperation in academic mobility has been expanding annually in this area. For example, last year, a student from Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University had the opportunity to study at Abai University במסגרת the academic mobility program.

At the end of the lecture, participants engaged in an open exchange of views in a question-and-answer format, during which new ideas related to the field of art were also discussed. Such meetings will continue in the future, creating further opportunities for students to gain international experience and enhance their creative potential.
