THE FACULTY OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED
Today, Abai University held the official opening ceremony of its new
Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence. Established at a
time when modern technologies are rapidly transforming society, the new faculty
aims to train a new generation of educators equipped with advanced digital
competencies.
As is known, this year has been declared the Year of Digitalization and
Artificial Intelligence at the initiative of President of the Republic of
Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In this regard, a number of important
initiatives have been launched at Abai University. The key objective is to
prepare a new generation of educators who are ready to address the challenges
of the modern era and capable of thinking innovatively and applying advanced
technologies in education.
To this end, the newly established Faculty of Information Technology and
Artificial Intelligence was officially inaugurated today, opening its doors to
students. Opening the event, Bolat Tilep, Chairman of the Board and Rector of
Abai KazNPU, noted that the establishment of the new faculty is aimed at
implementing President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s initiative to identify
artificial intelligence as one of the priority areas for the country’s
development.
«We need to provide our students with new and up-to-date knowledge. In
recent years, the number of research projects focused on artificial
intelligence at the university has increased significantly. This means that the
new faculty is not starting from scratch. It already has a solid scientific
foundation, accumulated experience, and qualified specialists to build upon. Of
course, artificial intelligence will not replace teachers. However, we will
teach students how to use it as a supportive tool and train educators who are
proficient in modern technologies», said Bolat
Anapiuly.
During the opening ceremony, the faculty’s goals and objectives were
outlined, while its academic staff and educational opportunities were
presented. The faculty’s modern facilities, technical infrastructure, and
specialized laboratories designed to support the training of a new generation
of educators were also showcased.
Today, 810 students are enrolled in four academic programs at the faculty.
Nearly 300 students are pursuing studies in IT and artificial intelligence. The
faculty’s areas of focus include artificial intelligence and machine learning,
software engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, data analytics and
Data Science, robotics and intelligent systems, digital pedagogy, generative
artificial intelligence, and information technology.
The key distinguishing feature of the new faculty is its integration of IT education with pedagogical training, aimed at preparing digital educators who possess both advanced technological skills and a strong understanding of the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
