THE FIRST ACADEMIC COUNCIL MEETING OF THE NEW ACADEMIC YEAR WAS HELD

The regular meeting of the Academic Council was held at Abai University, where the results of the work carried out during the previous academic year were reviewed. The meeting addressed key issues related to improving the quality of education, digital transformation, social development policy, strengthening the university’s research capacity, and its strategic development priorities.

The previous academic year was marked by the renewal of educational content, improvement of teaching methods, development of the assessment system, and strengthening the professional and research capacity of the teaching staff. Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Banu Narbekova presented a report covering the key results of the educational process. In the coming period, alongside improving the quality of education, the university plans to expand the use of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the educational process. The university will continue developing principles for the use of artificial intelligence, enhancing the digital and AI competencies of faculty members and students, developing online courses, and integrating the best domestic and international courses into educational programmes. Further improvement of the inclusive educational environment has also been identified as an important priority.

The report of Vice-Rector for Social Development Maksat Zhakauov covered initiatives aimed at supporting students. Providing students with places in rented dormitories, developing a system of sports clubs, and introducing an integrated GPA system to encourage active students will expand the social opportunities available within the student community.

The admission campaign for the new academic year will also continue with new approaches. A unified marketing strategy for attracting applicants, career guidance activities in schools and colleges, Open Day events, and online activities will become key tools of the university’s admission policy. Strengthening information outreach on social media, creating regular content for applicants, and systematically attracting international students and қандастар to study at the university will also remain among the priorities.

Changes in the labour market are also creating new requirements for the content of educational programmes. In this regard, regularly assessing the relevance of educational programmes to labour market demands and developing new programmes remain among the university’s key priorities. The agenda items were considered comprehensively, and relevant decisions were adopted.

The meeting also reviewed the results of work aimed at strengthening the university’s research capacity. The scientific achievements of the university’s researchers and key research indicators were presented. In particular, Yerkin Telakhynov and Yerkin Saidakov were awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in the scientific field 50300 – “Education”. Professor and Doctor of Philological Sciences Kalbike Yessenova successfully completed the Research Professor Programme.

In addition, the academic publication “Bulletin of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. Series: Law” was included in the list of scientific publications, opening up new opportunities for the development of research in the field of legal sciences. By decision of the Academic Council, the title of “Honorary Head of Department” was awarded to Salakhiden Sabikenov and Nurlan Zhamansarin.

Diplomas were also awarded to doctoral students who successfully defended their research at dissertation councils. Doctoral degrees were awarded to Aliya Sugirbayeva in Primary Education Pedagogy and Methodology; Venera Sarbasova in Pedagogy and Psychology; Gulnaz Derbissaliyeva and Zhanar Nurseitova in Defectology; Gulnur Erzhanova and Dana Zholdasbekova in Special Education; Dinara Yerdembekova and Maira Berlibayeva in Preschool Education and Training; and Alibek Baibolov in Russian Language and Literature.
