NEW HEAD APPOINTED TO THE MILITARY DEPARTMENTARTMENT
The Military Department of Abai University provides students with an opportunity to combine their studies with military training, gain practical experience in the field of national defence, and obtain a military rank. A new head has been appointed to the Military Department for the new academic year. Today, Bolat Tilep, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Abai KazNPU, introduced the new Head of the Department to the staff and outlined important tasks for the further development of this area.
The Military Department was established at the university in 1998. To date, it has trained more than 6,400 reserve officers and over 1,900 reserve sergeants. The range of military occupational specialties offered by the department is broad and aligned with modern requirements. The training programme covers the organisation of social and ideological work within military units, the fundamentals of military psychology, legal literacy, reconnaissance operations, and the management of combined-arms units.
In accordance with an order of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Colonel Amantay Akimkulov has been appointed Head of the University’s Military Department. Today, Bolat Anapiuly, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Abai KazNPU, introduced the new head to the staff and assigned him important tasks outlined in the department’s plans for the upcoming academic year. The meeting was attended by the department’s teaching staff and cadets.
In general, students at the Military Department receive military training under the reserve officer training programme in five military occupational specialties. These include Social and Ideological Work in Military Units, Military Unit Psychology, Military Law, Organisation and Conduct of Reconnaissance Operations, and Management of Combined-Arms Units.
Reserve sergeant training is conducted in three military occupational specialties: “Management of Junior-Level Motor Rifle Units,” “Infantry Fighting Vehicle and Armoured Personnel Carrier,” and “Social and Ideological Work in Military Units.”
It is worth noting that the newly appointed Head of the Military Department, Amantay Khaliuly, graduated from the Almaty Higher Military School and served for many years in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Over the years, he held positions including commander, chief of staff, deputy commander, and officer in various fields at military units in Kapshagay, Arys, Ayagoz, and Almaty.
From 2019 to 2023, he served as an associate professor at the Department of Firearms Training of the Military Institute of the Ground Forces. From 2023 to 2026, he worked as an adviser to the Akim of Turkistan Region on military security and defence matters.
