The 2026–2027 academic year at Abai University will begin with a number of positive developments. In particular, the duration of study in the field of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence has been reduced to three years. In addition, a new Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence has been established, and a joint double-degree educational programme with Sirius University of Science and Technology is set to be launched. These are among the major innovations introduced ahead of the new academic year.

In 2024, Kazakhstan launched pilot projects aimed at reducing the standard four-year study period in higher education. The key objective of these initiatives is to prepare specialists who can acquire relevant skills in a shorter period of time and enter the labour market earlier. This is particularly important in the fields of IT and artificial intelligence.

In this regard, starting from the 2026–2027 academic year, the study period for the “6B06102 – Information Systems and Artificial Intelligence” educational programme at Abai University has been reduced from four years to three. Students will now be able to earn a bachelor’s degree within three years, develop the professional competencies required in modern digital technologies and artificial intelligence, and enter the labour market at an earlier stage.

Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University is placing particular emphasis on the development of education in the field of digitalisation. One of the key examples is the establishment of the university’s new Faculty of Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence. The new faculty will contribute to more effective training of specialists in line with the demands of the times, help students develop professional skills, and prepare them to become highly qualified specialists in demand in the labour market.

In addition, during the new academic year, the university plans to launch a joint master’s degree programme, “Leaders in Science and Technology Education,” with the foreign Sirius University of Science and Technology. The programme is planned to be implemented in the field of “Teacher Education” starting from the 2026–2027 academic year. It should be noted that a meeting with the leadership of the foreign Sirius Education Centre was held earlier, resulting in the signing of a memorandum of cooperation.

Another important development is that this year Abai University will implement two joint educational programmes with the Academy of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan: “6B03124 – Political Science and National Security” and “6B02217 – Religious Studies and National Security.” A total of 88 cadets will have the opportunity to pursue higher education in these fields and develop the professional skills necessary for their future careers.
