POLLING STATIONS ARE FULLY READY

On August 23, elections to the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan will be held in the country. This is one of the important events in the public and political life of the state. In this regard, the territorial polling stations located at Abai University are fully prepared to ensure that citizens can freely and without hindrance exercise their constitutional right to vote.

The sports hall of the educational institution located at 30V Kazybek Bi Street in Almaty has been designated as Polling Station No. 363. For residents of the capital, the University’s Institute of Education, located at 8/1 Ushkyshtar Street in Astana, will operate as Polling Station No. 139. The necessary material and technical facilities for organizing the voting process have been prepared at these polling stations, and workplaces for commission members have been equipped. Election documents have been prepared, and the necessary information materials have been placed.

Polling Station No. 363 covers approximately 1,000 voters, while approximately 2,000 citizens are registered at Polling Station No. 139. Accordingly, on election day, the precinct election commissions will receive citizens, verify their data, issue ballot papers, and conduct the voting process in accordance with the requirements of the law.

According to the Territorial Election Commission (TEC), 670 polling stations are operating in Almaty. The number of voters in the metropolis exceeds 1.3 million. Preparations for the Kurultai elections have been carried out in accordance with the calendar plan approved by the Central Election Commission. Currently, work is nearing completion across the country on organizing the activities of precinct election commissions, improving the training of commission members, checking the material and technical condition of polling stations, verifying voter lists, and conducting information and awareness-raising activities among the population.

The Kurultai elections will begin at 07:00 on August 23 and continue until 20:00. One of the distinctive features of these elections is the strengthened requirements for maintaining the secrecy of the ballot. In particular, it is prohibited to photograph or record a completed ballot paper on video, as well as to distribute an image of it. This requirement is aimed at ensuring every citizen’s freedom of choice and maintaining the secrecy of the ballot.

It should be recalled that the Kurultai elections are an important political stage in the formation of Kazakhstan’s new constitutional model. On this day, the deputies of the Kurultai will be elected for the first time in the country’s history. A total of 145 deputies will be elected to the Kurultai based on party lists within the territory of a single nationwide electoral district.
