AUGUST 12 – INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
August 12 marks International Youth Day, established by the United Nations. Today, young people account for nearly one-third of Kazakhstan's population, exceeding 5.8 million. The Republic of Kazakhstan consistently prioritizes youth policy. As part of human capital development—a key national strategic goal—today's youth enjoy extensive opportunities to pursue education, engage in scientific research, and implement innovative projects.
Abai University works extensively to advance these priorities. Currently, the institution educates more than 22,000 students. University leadership focuses not only on academic excellence but also on creating an inspiring ecosystem that nurtures creative potential and helps bring bold ideas to life.
To support well-rounded personal development, the university hosts 46 creative clubs, 10 sports teams, 4 theater troupes, and 6 volunteer organizations. A traditional highlight that draws students from every faculty is the annual "Miss and Mr. Abai" competition.
The Orazaly Dosbosynov Young Poets Center plays a unique role in university life. Here, students refine their poetic craft, immerse themselves in national literary heritage, and cultivate refined artistic taste. Members of the center consistently win top honors at international and national poetry slams (aitysh), competitions, and literary contests, embodying spiritual continuity and creative dedication.
Alongside artistic endeavors, Abai University places strong emphasis on supporting emerging researchers and science enthusiasts. A prime example is the annual "Zhas Kasipker" startup competition, which features a substantial prize pool. It aims to foster entrepreneurship and encourage young researchers and faculty members to design and launch commercial projects. Winners secure funding to fully execute ideas that benefit both society and the education sector.
Additionally, the university conducts internal grant competitions for young researchers' scientific projects. Aligned with the University Development Plan for 2023–2029, this initiative aims to define key research clusters to help the institution achieve full pedagogical research university status. Priority for grant funding goes to interdisciplinary studies addressing secondary education, innovations in educational technology, and the design of novel teaching methodologies.
By integrating quality education, rigorous science, creativity, and innovation, Abai University builds a clear pathway for the young generation to realize their full potential. Empowering educated, proactive youth who will shape the nation's future remains the institution's top priority.
