UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR DELIVERS REPORT AT INTERNATIONAL MEDIA FORUM IN URUMQI
Research Professor at Abai University and Doctor of Political Sciences, Gulmira Sultanbaeva, participated in the 4th International Forum on Communication and Media in Central Asia held in Urumqi, where she presented a report on a digital model for combating disinformation. She introduced the RasInfo.kz platform, developed under a grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and presented her scientific works to international colleagues.
The international gathering brought together heads of journalism schools from Northwest and Central China, along with media experts and scholars from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, and Russia. Ahead of the 3rd China–Central Asia Summit scheduled for 2027, forum participants discussed strengthening regional cooperation, advancing digital technologies, enhancing journalism education in the AI era, and fostering empathetic communication. Industry experts highlighted the symbolic significance of the historical Silk Road in shaping modern communicative culture, prioritizing values of peace, openness, and inclusive education.
Kazakhstani scholar Gulmira Sultanbaeva shared the results of research conducted under the grant funding project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. She outlined a digital model based on data processing algorithms and neural networks designed to filter information flows in a multilingual environment, and showcased the RasInfo.kz platform, which teaches media literacy in alignment with UNESCO standards.
During the event, the Abai University professor donated her academic works to Wu Shiwen, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Wuhan University, and Jin Yuping, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Xinjiang University. The presented books have joined the collections of foreign university libraries.
The scientific forum also addressed China's perspective on regional media trends. Professor Wang Fei of Xinjiang University delivered a report on US media support programs in Central Asia and the impact of geopolitical competition, noting that this area will be further explored in future research.
At the conclusion of the forum, participants agreed to adapt educational curricula to the era of artificial intelligence, implement joint media projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and continuously develop an international academic expert platform.
