The military department is a school that instills patriotism in the younger generation and shapes them into well-rounded citizens. The military department of Abai University is a structure that, along with high professional education, teaches students the fundamentals of military affairs.

The military department of the university was established in accordance with a special resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1997. Today, cadets study under reserve officer and reserve sergeant training programs. The range of military occupational specialties taught here is broad and meets modern requirements. The curriculum includes the organization of social and ideological work in military units, the basics of military psychology, legal literacy, intelligence operations, and the management of combined arms units.

Military training of students under the reserve officer training program is conducted in 5 military occupational specialties:

1.     Social and ideological work in military units;

2.     Psychology of military units;

3.     Jurisprudence in military affairs;

4.     Organization and conduct of intelligence in military affairs;

5.     Management of combined arms units.

Under the reserve sergeant training program, training is conducted in 3 military occupational specialties:

1.     Management of junior motorized rifle units;

2.     Infantry fighting vehicle and armored personnel carrier specialties;

3.     Social and ideological work in military units.

The educational process at the department is based on combining theoretical knowledge with practice. Students not only master the principles of military science but also participate in field training exercises, improve physical fitness, and develop endurance and courage. The training here teaches effective use of every minute, strict discipline, and the ability to make quick and correct decisions in any situation.

Admission to the military department consists of 4 stages. First, the candidate undergoes a medical examination and confirms their health condition. Then they pass psychological selection and meet physical fitness standards. Based on this, the candidates’ rating indicators are evaluated. These requirements are aimed at determining the student’s readiness for the responsibility and workload of military service.

To date, more than 6,400 reserve officers and more than 1,900 reserve sergeants have graduated from the military department. They work with honor in various fields across the country, contributing to the development of the state. Currently, hundreds of students are also receiving military training, preparing to serve in strengthening the country’s security and defense capabilities in the future.

Graduates who successfully complete their studies are awarded the military ranks of “reserve lieutenant” and “reserve sergeant.” Each graduate of the military department becomes a patriotic, disciplined, and well-rounded citizen ready to serve the future of the country.
