ABAI CENTER TO OPEN AT A UNIVERSITY IN XI'AN, CHINA

From June 24 to 27, a delegation from Abai University paid a working visit to the city of Xi'an in the People's Republic of China. As a result of the strategic visit, the "Abai Center for Kazakh Culture Studies" is scheduled to open at Xi'an International Studies University in October 2026. The official delegation met with the leadership of the foreign university and discussed a concrete action plan for the establishment of the center.


Dean of the Faculty of Arts Karimm Alimkhanuly, Professor Zhanerke Nauryzbaikyzy, and Professor Liu Wenbin discussed with representatives of the leading higher education institutions of the neighboring country the strengthening of cooperation in the fields of education, science, culture, and art. They also worked on developing a joint double-degree educational program at the master's level and promoting Abai's heritage more broadly within China's academic community.


During the visit, the delegation held official meetings with representatives of Xi'an International Studies University, Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest University, and Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. The meetings focused on issues of academic mobility, joint research projects, exchange of experience among faculty members, and cooperation in the fields of art and arts education.


During meetings with Xi'an International Studies University, special attention was paid to the implementation of a double-degree educational program at the master's level. This initiative will provide master's students with opportunities to gain professional experience in the international educational environment, develop academic mobility, and strengthen scientific and methodological ties between the faculty members of the two universities.


In addition, discussions were held regarding the opening of the "Abai Center for Kazakh Culture Studies" at Xi'an International Studies University in October 2026. The center will focus on promoting Kazakh culture, Abai's heritage, national art, and contemporary practices in arts education within China's higher education landscape.


The university delegation also exchanged views at the Institute of Arts of Shaanxi Normal University and at Northwest University on issues related to specialist training, academic research, the study of cultural heritage, and the organization of joint exhibitions and master classes. Meanwhile, meetings with representatives of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts explored opportunities for cooperation in fine arts, design, arts education, and creative industries, as well as the implementation of joint creative projects and academic exchange programs.


The delegation also met with Professor Wu Yao, Rector of Xi'an International Studies University, to discuss long-term strategic partnership, the double-degree program, and academic mobility. A concrete work plan for opening the Abai Center for Kazakh Culture Studies at the university was discussed.


This working visit will undoubtedly contribute to expanding international relations, elevating partnerships with foreign higher education institutions to a new level, and promoting Kazakh culture and Abai's heritage on the global stage.
