Last week, the poetry contest “Almaty – City of Dreams” was held in the southern capital, where representatives of the Orazaly Dosbosynov Center for Young Poets of Abai University won prize places. The head of the center also became a winner of a national competition. This is the result of systematic work aimed at developing students’ creative potential. It is a great opportunity for applicants who aspire to reveal their talent.

The poetry contest was organized with the support of the Almaty City Youth Policy Department and aimed at expanding the creative horizons of talented youth, fostering appreciation for the art of words, and introducing new names to the literary community. The “Zhas Akyn” contest, held within the framework of the “Youth Literature” project, stood out this year for its scale. More than 100 participants aged 14 to 35 took part, presenting their works on the theme “Almaty – City of Dreams” as well as on free topics. The entries were evaluated in terms of artistic exploration, language mastery, and imagery.

The jury, composed of well-known figures in literature and the arts, carefully reviewed each work, paying special attention to poetic structure, depth of thought, and artistic solutions. According to the results, student Shamil Nesipbay won second place and received a cash prize of 400,000 tenge, while Balkybek Abzal took third place, winning 200,000 tenge.

It is worth noting that the mentor of the young poets, head of the center Aitugan Zhetebayev, has also been achieving success in national competitions. For instance, last week he won first place at the republican poetry contest “Tana Myrza – A Figure of Alash,” held in the Aksuat district of the Abai Region. Competing against more than 100 participants from across the country, Aitugan Sabyrouly was awarded the grand prize of 550,000 tenge.

Overall, the systematic work of the Center for Young Poets and its role in fostering a spiritual environment within the university are of particular importance. Here, students not only develop their poetry writing skills but also absorb the richness of national literary heritage and shape their artistic taste. Today, university students consistently achieve high results in various literary competitions, demonstrating the continuity of creative pursuit and spiritual growth.
