MEMORANDUM SIGNED WITH THE ZHAMBYL ZHABAYEV MUSEUM

Abai University has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Zhambyl Zhabayev Literary-Memorial Museum. Within the framework of the bilateral agreement, special excursion programs, thematic lectures on culture, creative meetings, and other joint events aimed at familiarizing young people with the rich historical heritage of Kazakhstan will be organized for the university students.

The official document was signed by Vice-Rector for Social Development of the university Maksat Zhakau and Director of the Zhambyl Zhabayev Literary-Memorial Museum Saltanat Tezekbayevna. Abai University has already begun developing educational and outreach programs that will be offered to students in the next academic year. Thus, systematic joint work with the museum complex has officially commenced.

From now on, trips to the house-museum of the great improvisational akyn will become an integral part of the university’s cultural life. Lectures by the museum’s research staff on the life of the renowned popularizer of oral folk art will be organized for students and faculty members of the educational institution. In addition, this is an excellent opportunity for students to become acquainted with the unique nature of the Zhetysu region.

To date, the museum has been successfully collaborating with hundreds of schools across Kazakhstan; however, Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University (Abai KazNPU) has become the only higher education institution so far to sign such an agreement. This event can rightfully be called symbolic, as this year the country celebrates the 180th anniversary of the birth of the classic of national literature.

The museum representatives warmly supported the university’s initiative:

“Zhambyl Zhabayev is a unique personality whose legacy remains relevant even today. It is very important to pass on to the younger generation knowledge about the lives of people whose творчество is filled with sincere love for their people, their history, and culture, as well as to awaken young people’s interest in the country’s spiritual heritage,” noted museum director Saltanat Tezekbayeva.

The literary-memorial complex is located in the village of Zhambyl, where the poet spent a significant part of his life. On the museum grounds there is a large garden in which a mausoleum of the great son of the Kazakh people has been erected. Thanks to the efforts of the staff, the entire complex has been preserved in its original form and is distinguished by a special atmosphere that attracts visitors not only from all over Kazakhstan, but also from many different parts of the world.
