A NEW DORMITORY WILL APPEAR AT ABAI UNIVERSITY

A new 500-bed student dormitory will be built for students of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. The decision to implement the project was made during a meeting between the Chairman of the Board-Rector of Abai KazNPU, Bolat Tlep, and representatives of the Chinese industrial group Shaanxi Yiheshenfen in Kazakhstan.

The building will be constructed on Ivan Shukhov Street in Almaty, on a land plot owned by the university. The new student dormitory will provide all the necessary conditions for comfortable living. Students will have access to reading halls, recreation areas, sectional departments, a cafeteria, and social facilities. A security system is also предусмотрена.

Earlier, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, emphasized the importance of providing students with dormitories. The Minister highlighted the need to develop partnerships for the implementation of projects aimed at the construction and modernization of student dormitories.

In accordance with this instruction, the Chairman of the Board-Rector of Abai KazNPU, Bolat Tlep, met with representatives of the industrial group Shaanxi Yiheshenfen of the People’s Republic of China in Kazakhstan. Following the meeting, a memorandum on long-term cooperation was signed. Representatives of the Chinese company expressed their readiness to act as investors in the construction of the student dormitory.

Speaking about the significance of this initiative, the company’s General Director, Liu Zong Jiang, noted the university’s strong scientific potential and historical importance. According to him, the implementation of the project will become a special contribution to the upcoming 100th anniversary of the country’s first university.

“We have long been familiar with the history and scientific potential of Abai University. Our meeting will mark the beginning of turning plans into real projects. We are ready to provide our financial capabilities and advanced technologies,” the company head stated.

In addition, the university plans to modernize its existing dormitories. This year, a major renovation of Dormitory No. 5, located at 56V Abai Avenue, Almaty, is planned. A reconstruction project for four more dormitories is also being developed.

Currently, Abai University operates 13 dormitories. Five of them belong to the university, while the remaining eight are provided under lease agreements. Due to the annual increase in the number of students, the demand for dormitory places remains high. The university primarily provides accommodation to students arriving from the regions, paying special attention to first-year students.
