UNIVERSITY GRADUATE BECOMES WINNER OF THE MECENAT.KZ LITERARY AWARD

The results of the fifth season of the Mecenat.kz competition, aimed at supporting the nation’s cultural and spiritual development, have been announced. In this competition, Abai University graduate and well-known writer Yesbolat Aidabosyn was recognized as the best and became the winner of the independent literary award.

Traditionally, the Mecenat.kz competition identifies the best novel written about Kazakhstan. The author of the winning work receives a special insurance policy from Freedom Life, which provides a lifelong monthly payment of 500 US dollars. This initiative, aimed at supporting national literature, gives writers the opportunity to engage freely in creative work.

This year, 33 applications were submitted to the competition, and among them, Yesbolat Aidabosyn’s novel “Bükir” stood out prominently. In the novel, the author uses the fate of a horse as the central theme to deeply explore human dignity and the issue of social inequality in society. The work, portraying the struggle for honor and morality, received high praise from readers and literary critics.

The award ceremony was attended by Vice Minister of Culture and Information Rustem Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Freedom Holding Corporation and project patron Timur Turlov, initiative author Erlan Askarbekov, and prominent public figures. Guests were also shown a documentary film about the innovations introduced in the fifth season. Project patron Timur Turlov solemnly presented the Mecenat.kz independent literary award.

The novel “Bükir” represents a new path and fresh creative exploration in modern Kazakh prose. The intertwining of the horse’s fate with human life is clear evidence of the writer’s mastery. In this work, the author mercilessly exposes the flaws of a society that judges people based on their appearance and physical form. The image of the horse symbolizes freedom, nobility, and purity. The storyline and the inner monologues of the characters resemble a spiritual diagnosis of contemporary society.

It should be noted that in April, the writer held a meeting with young people at the university where he himself studied. He exchanged views on the directions of modern Kazakh literature and organized discussions with students. During the meeting, students shared that they had read the novel “Bükir” and expressed their support for the author.

Abai University has always highly valued the achievements of its graduates and their contributions to social development. Yesbolat Aidabosyn’s victory is not only the writer’s success, but also a source of pride for the entire national system of education and upbringing. The writer’s ability to address a complex topic and gain recognition in literary circles reflects the high level of creative foundation and professional training established at the university. There is no doubt that “Bükir” will become a valuable addition to the golden treasury of Kazakh literature.
