TRIBUTE TO HEROISM THAT SERVES AS AN EXAMPLE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

A meaningful spiritual and educational event titled “Tribute to Heroism” was held at Abai University, dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day on May 7. The event aimed to honor the heroic spirit of the nation and to serve as an example for younger generations through the legacy of those who defended the country.

The ceremony began with a flower-laying ritual at the memorial sign “Tribute to Heroism” on the university grounds. Cadets, lined up in military formation, paid tribute to the heroes and then laid flowers at the memorial plaque dedicated to Hero of the Soviet Union and prominent scientist of the Kazakh SSR, Malik Gabdullin. University leadership, members of the Veterans Council, and around 50 veterans took part in the event.

After the ceremony, a formal lunch was organized at the university in honor of the veterans. The event was opened by the Chairman of the Board and Rector of the university, Bolat Tilep, who addressed the guests with warm remarks.

– Dear representatives of the older generation, respected teachers! Meeting you is a great honor for us. It is rightly said: “A village with a wise elder is united, a nation with scholars flourishes.” You are the individuals who laid the foundation of science and education in our country and devoted your lives to educating future generations. The university’s current achievements are a continuation of your great work. Our university has produced 8 Heroes of the Soviet Union. I express my sincere gratitude to you. Your work is an example for future generations, – the rector said.

During the event, speeches were also delivered by the Chairman of the Veterans Council, Berikzhan Aitkulovich, and the Chairman of the Medeu District Veterans Council, Almas Toleubaev. He noted that around 31,000 veterans live in the Medeu district, most of whom are graduates of Abai University.

At the end of the event, veterans who had worked at the university for many years were awarded certificates of appreciation from the rector and received commemorative gifts. This was a well-deserved recognition of their long-standing service.

It should be noted that within the framework of the event, cleanup work was also carried out at the “Kensai-1” cemetery, where Malik Gabdullin is buried. Students and faculty members cleaned the area and offered prayers in honor of the hero. This initiative was organized as part of the “Clean Kazakhstan” campaign and served as an important effort to strengthen young people’s respect for history and the nation.
