THE STRENGTH OF KAZAKH BATYRS THROUGH THE ARTIST’S BRUSH

A thematic art exhibition titled «Er atagyn el saqtar» («The People Preserve the Hero’s Name») by renowned Kazakh artist Erkin Kaishybek has opened in Taraz. The exhibition is hosted at the «Korkemsuret» gallery of the Zhambyl Regional Museum of History and Local Lore. The author of the project, a teacher, professional artist, and member of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan, has dedicated this series to the anniversaries of legendary athletes: the 155th anniversary of Kazhymukan Munaitpasov and the 75th anniversary of Olympic champion Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov.

Sport is not a coincidental theme in Kaishybek’s work. The artist is himself a strong advocate of a healthy lifestyle and holds the title of Master of Sports in Greco-Roman wrestling. What makes his art distinctive is his ability to bridge two seemingly distant worlds — sport and fine art — into a single expressive language. His paintings capture the raw strength and dignity of Kazakh wrestlers, where frozen brushstrokes do not merely pause action, but instead intensify it, revealing the rhythm of movement and the force of human will.

The exhibition opened in a ceremonial atmosphere, filled with warm wishes and heartfelt appreciation from guests. The artist received a letter of gratitude on behalf of Erlan Zhunusbay, Head of the Department of Culture and Language Development of the Zhambyl Regional Akimat. In total, more than 40 original works are on display. The exhibition will remain open to visitors until May 20.

Previously, Erkin Kaishybek presented this series to audiences in Almaty as well. Over 50 of his vibrant paintings were exhibited at the museum of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. A graduate of the Kazhymukan Republican Boarding School and the Faculty of Arts and Graphics of KazPI, Erkin Kaishybek today also shares his expertise by teaching the young followers.
