A NEW BOOK ON GEOPOLITICS WAS PRESENTED

Today, Abai University hosted an educational seminar by Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Kaster Sarqytkan titled “Understanding the World Begins with Geography and Ends with Politics.” During the event, contemporary international relations, strategic development directions of states, and the impact of geopolitics on economic growth were analyzed from a scientific perspective.

The speaker highlighted key mechanisms behind the development of leading countries and explained the fundamental concepts of geopolitics in detail. The scholar emphasized that the history, language, and culture of each nation form its internal essence, while its position in the external world is determined by economic strength and an effective geopolitical stance.

“The most valuable asset and strategic resource of a state is its land. Therefore, the main conflicts and clashes of interest throughout history revolve around territorial integrity and control over space,” said Kaster Sarqytkan.

Geopolitics is not merely a combination of politics and geography; it is a discipline that defines a state's foreign policy through its geographical prerequisites, location, climate, natural resources, and neighboring countries.

The speaker also addressed the development dynamics of ancient Europe and Asia, analyzing the works of geographers who laid the foundations for the emergence of empires. In particular, the “Heartland” and “Sea Power” theories developed by Halford Mackinder and Alfred Mahan, and their influence on the modern world order, were thoroughly discussed.

The scholar elaborated on the economic advantages of coastal regions and the role of climate in the evolution of civilizations.

Special attention was given to the issue of selecting a country’s capital. The location of a capital city is not merely an administrative decision, but a strategic step based on geographical conditions that ensure economic development and strengthen national security.

During an open dialogue with students, important topics such as modern geopolitical threats, the regional significance of Central Asia, and Kazakhstan’s transit potential were discussed.

At the end of the evening, the scholar’s new book “Geography and Politics,” the result of many years of research, was officially presented.

The art of managing geographical space is a guarantee of a stable future for any sovereign state. The seminar broadened students’ perspectives and guided them to evaluate changes on the global political map through scientific logic.

The scholar’s new work will undoubtedly contribute to shaping a sense of statehood among the younger generation and enhancing their strategic thinking skills.
