COOPERATION BETWEEN UNIVERSITIES OF KAZAKHSTAN AND FRANCE HAS ADVANCED TO A NEW LEVEL OF STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

Today, Abai University hosted an official delegation from the University of Lorraine (France) to discuss the advancement of academic cooperation in higher education and the strengthening of bilateral ties. This initiative is being implemented as part of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's directive to open branches of prestigious foreign universities in Kazakhstan and to deepen strategic partnerships.

During the meeting, the parties addressed key issues regarding the operations of the University of Lorraine branch at Abai University and outlined significant steps toward integration into the European Higher Education Area. The negotiations concluded with the signing of a memorandum of partnership. The sides discussed mechanisms for establishing a unified academic platform based on the University of Lorraine branch and the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute, as well as the implementation of joint educational programs and the development of scientific initiatives. Furthermore, an agreement was drafted to institutionally regulate the involvement of French partners in the branch's activities; the formal signing of this document is scheduled for this autumn.

The bilateral meeting was attended on the French side by the Consul General of France in Almaty, Maxime Gérardin; Vice-President of the University of Lorraine, Cécile Noël; Head of International Cooperation at the University of Lorraine, Vladan Bozilovic; and Counselor of the French Embassy, Sébastien de Courtois. Representing Abai University (KazNPU) were Chairman of the Board – Rector Bolat Tlep, Vice-Rector Banu Narbekova, and Director of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute Ainur Sabitova, all of whom expressed their readiness to implement future joint projects.

Increasing academic mobility and launching a double-degree program in "International Law" starting in the new academic year were identified as priority areas for cooperation. Additionally, plans were approved for faculty exchange visits to share expertise, as well as the expansion of student exchange programs and academic internships.
