SUICIDE PREVENTION AMONG YOUTH — A KEY PRIORITY
Today, a comprehensive preventive seminar titled “Suicide Prevention Among Youth: Risk Factors and Protective Mechanisms” was held at Abai University. The event aimed to enhance psychological literacy among young people and prevent suicidal behavior.
During the seminar, participants received in-depth information on identifying risk factors, recognizing early signs of suicidal thoughts in a timely manner, providing support during difficult moments, and understanding protective mechanisms that strengthen inner resilience.
Zhuldyzay Aliyeva, Head of the Psychological Laboratory at the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Mental Health, emphasized the critical importance of this issue for society. In her speech, she elaborated on the social, psychological, and personal factors contributing to suicidal behavior among youth and highlighted the importance of paying close attention to every warning sign.
“Every young person is the foundation of the future. Difficulties are temporary, while life is an invaluable asset. The most important thing is not to remain alone, not to be afraid to seek help, and to show compassion to one another,” the speaker noted.
As part of the seminar, participants were introduced to effective methods for managing stress, maintaining emotional balance, and increasing resilience to life’s challenges. In addition, detailed information was provided about psychological support services and accessible resources available in crisis situations.
At the end of the
event, students shared their thoughts, noting the practical value of the
knowledge gained for everyday life. They emphasized the importance of
discussing such topics with peers and understanding that there is always a
