SIX MODERN LABORATORIES OPENED AT ABAI UNIVERSITY

Currently, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev places strategic emphasis on strengthening scientific capacity, supporting young researchers, and modernizing research infrastructure. This initiative is also supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In this context, six laboratories focused on scientific and applied research were officially opened today at Abai University. Launched on the basis of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Geography, the laboratories create new opportunities for implementing promising research projects.

The six laboratories cover a wide range of disciplines. Five laboratories under the Department of Chemistry specialize in analytical chemistry, nanochemistry, electrochemistry, and chemical technologies, while the Department of Biology has launched a Laboratory of Experimental Biology. These state-of-the-art facilities will contribute to advancing scientific and applied research, improving the quality of professional training, and fostering the development of science.

For example, the Laboratory of Experimental Biology provides a strong material and technical foundation for conducting both fundamental and applied research. It offers conditions for studying the mechanisms of biological processes and for experimentally testing scientific hypotheses. Research conducted in the laboratory includes the study of growth and development patterns in living organisms, identification of pathogenic microorganisms and plant disease agents, and assessment of the impact of environmental factors on biological objects.

“The laboratory is equipped with the latest generation of experimental equipment. For instance, microscopes allow us to examine tissues down to their smallest structural units. A climate chamber enables the cultivation of plant meristem tissues and microscopic fungi. A PCR analysis system has been installed to identify genes responsible for plant immunity to diseases. Therefore, the research potential of the Laboratory of Experimental Biology is very high,” noted PhD, Associate Professor Kanat Galymbek.

The Laboratory of Electrochemistry serves as a center for studying the interaction between electrical energy and chemical processes, including corrosion, electrosynthesis, and chemical power sources. Here, students and young researchers can complete graduation projects, develop scientific initiatives, and engage in applied research for industrial purposes.

The Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry is designed for physicochemical analysis of solid and liquid phases, as well as for improving methods of raw material and product analysis. The Laboratory of Nanochemistry focuses on the synthesis, study, and application of nanoparticles. Students and master’s degree candidates use the facility to conduct research in electron microscopy and nanomaterials science.

The Laboratory of Chemical Technologies is dedicated to applied research in raw material processing and the development of new products, serving as a platform for integrating science and industry. Chemical processes are modeled and materials are tested here. Using local raw materials, researchers develop environmentally friendly products, medicinal phytopreparations, and new chemical compounds.

These modern laboratories are aimed at training highly qualified specialists, advancing research activities, and expanding opportunities for conducting both fundamental and applied studies.
