MEETING HELD WITH YOUNG RESEARCHERS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF ALMATY

At Abai University, Deputy Akim of Almaty City Abzal Nukenov held a meeting with young scholars on the development of the city of Almaty. The event was attended by Deputy Head of the City Department of Education Saken Aralbayev, Deputy Head of the Youth Policy Department Miras Nysanaliev, as well as members of the university’s management and researchers. Projects aimed at developing the education system of the beautiful city located at the foothills of the Alatau Mountains were presented.

In accordance with the instructions of the Head of State, the development of the country’s largest metropolis and the resolution of issues related to the city’s infrastructure and education systems remain a key priority for the city administration. In this regard, Deputy Akim of Almaty City Abzal Nukenov paid a special visit to Abai University and comprehensively reviewed innovative projects proposed by young scholars. Researchers presented scientific projects to representatives of the city administration focusing on the development of the metropolis in the areas of transport, ecology, road safety, and inclusive education.

“Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University is the first higher education institution in the country. It is a great honor for us that the cradle of Kazakh education and science is located in the city of Almaty. Preparations for the 100th anniversary have already begun at the governmental level. Therefore, the city akimat is ready to provide support for the development of the university’s infrastructure and the strengthening of its scientific potential. In addition, I came to familiarize myself with innovative projects by young scholars aimed at developing Almaty’s educational infrastructure and the overall development of the city. A Scientific Council will be established under the city akimat to consider scientific recommendations for the sustainable development of the metropolis,” said the Deputy Akim of the city.

Abzal Nukenov was presented with information on the university’s scientific potential and statistical indicators, the student body, as well as plans for ongoing scientific projects and programs. In particular, international experience in the development of small cities within the Almaty agglomeration was analyzed, with priorities identified for the formation of a transport hub and the improvement of service quality. An environmental scientific project aimed at transforming the metropolis into a “green city” demonstrated methods for producing biocompost through the recycling of organic waste. Alongside environmental protection, the projects proposed economically efficient solutions supported by scientific conclusions.

In addition, the project titled “Mobile Reactor for Oil Separation from Sandy-Soil Formations,” aimed at improving the quality of road construction, was presented. The project, which has attracted interest from German business representatives, explores methods for producing materials capable of withstanding temperatures of up to +40°C from rubber granules and polymer-containing waste. This technology makes it possible to improve road quality and extend their service life, while also enhancing industrial and environmental safety. Projects currently being implemented at the university in the field of artificial intelligence were of particular interest to Abzal Nukenov.

It should be noted that more than 550 doctoral students and approximately 1,500 master’s students are currently studying at Abai University. Overall, more than 100 scientific projects are being implemented, 54 of which are funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. These projects focus on education, ecology, artificial intelligence, and new technologies. Special attention is given to strengthening the university’s scientific potential, with the goal of transforming it into a research university by 2029.

During the meeting, an open exchange of views took place with young scholars, and both sides agreed to further develop cooperation between science, education, and government institutions. In the future, with the support of the Almaty City Akimat, the development of a roadmap for the implementation of promising scientific projects and proposals will be considered.
