AWARENESS-RAISING ACTIVITIES ON CYBERCRIME AND DROPPER SCHEMES ARE UNDERWAY

At Abai University, an informational and awareness-raising event is being held as part of the nationwide “Law and Order” campaign. The event is jointly organized by the university administration and the Almaty City Police Department.

The meetings are being conducted sequentially in several lecture halls of the university. About 1,500 students have taken part in the event, during which they received comprehensive information on types of cybercrime, online fraud, financial security, dropper activities, and their legal consequences. The awareness campaign addressed current threats in the online environment, common methods used by fraudsters, ways to protect personal data, and the consequences of participating in illegal financial transactions, illustrated with real-life examples. Students were given important advice on the safe use of internet resources, avoiding suspicious links and offers, and protecting personal and financial information.

It is no secret that dropper activities are currently among the most dangerous forms of cybercrime. In many cases, young people, without fully realizing their involvement in illegal activities, provide their bank cards, accounts, or personal data to third parties at their request. However, it must be taken into account that such actions entail criminal liability under the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

– Starting from September 16, 2025, Article 232-1 will be introduced into the Criminal Code, establishing liability for dropper activities. Illegal access to bank accounts, payment or identification instruments, their transfer or receipt, as well as carrying out illegal payments and money transfers – including providing bank cards to third parties for material reward – will be legally classified as dropper activities and subject to strict criminal liability. In this regard, every citizen must take responsibility for the security of their personal and financial data and refuse suspicious offers, – said a representative of the Cybercrime Counteraction Department of the Almaty City Police Department, Police Lieutenant and operational officer Aibaty r Bauyrzhanuly.

The meeting was held in an interactive format, and police officers provided comprehensive and clear answers to students’ questions. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of improving legal literacy, complying with legal requirements, and forming a conscious civic stance. These informational and awareness-raising activities are aimed at preventing offenses among young people, increasing cyber security awareness, and strengthening personal responsibility.

It should be noted that the informational meetings held as part of the “Law and Order” campaign will continue until January 29 and will cover all faculties of the university.
