TASKS SET BY THE NATIONAL KURULTAI WERE DISCUSSED

At the 5th National Kurultai held under the chairmanship of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, key issues of the country’s social policy, modernization of the education system, and digital transformation were widely discussed. During the Kurultai, the President raised important topics such as improving the quality of education, developing human capital, fostering patriotism, and effectively utilizing the potential of artificial intelligence. In this regard, an administrative meeting was held today at Abai University under the leadership of the Chairman of the Board-Rector Bolat Tilep.

At the meeting, Bolat Anapiyauly analyzed the ideas and initiatives of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev voiced at the National Kurultai held in Kyzylorda, particularly those related to social policy and higher education, and emphasized that fulfilling the tasks set there is one of the main priorities of the university’s activities. He paid special attention to the fact that the systematic integration of artificial intelligence into the educational process is a requirement of the time.

“Artificial intelligence is an integral part of the modern education system. The President’s statement at the National Kurultai – ‘We will make substantial investments in education, science, and high technologies, because improving the quality of human capital is an exceptionally important task’ – was not made by chance. In this direction, we need not only to enhance the professional competencies of faculty members but also to elevate the quality of education to a new level,” said Bolat Anapiyauly.

The Head of State’s words at the Kurultai session that “The Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence was not declared for show or slogans. This decision assigns specific tasks to the entire state apparatus. This is a strategic task, and therefore the requirements for its implementation will be very high” place a special responsibility on the fields of science and higher education as well. “We must fully meet these requirements in every respect,” the university leadership noted.

At the administrative meeting, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Banu Narbekova reported that, in accordance with the instructions of the Head of State, a second stage of improving digital competencies for students and faculty within the framework of the OpenAI platform is planned for the upcoming period. According to her, the “Atlas of New Professions” must обязательно be taken into account when updating educational programs, as in the coming years most in-demand professions in the labor market will be closely linked to artificial intelligence, engineering, and technological fields.

“Training faculty members in artificial intelligence through the Coursera platform will continue. This will directly affect the university’s strategic development indicators, including the KPI system. In addition, for higher education institutions aspiring to research university status, academic integrity, graduate employment, and completion rates have become the main evaluation criteria,” said Banu Narbekova.

During the meeting, the implementation of initiatives raised at the National Kurultai, improving the quality of education, and accelerating digital transformation were discussed in detail. Abai University intends to continue systematically implementing the strategic initiatives of the Head of State, further strengthening its priority of training modern, competitive teaching professionals within the national education space.
