NEW DIRECTIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES IN TRANSLATION STUDIES ARE EXPANDING
A research laboratory titled “Integrative Translation
Studies,” which opens the way to one of the emerging directions in philology,
has been launched at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. The center,
established under the Department of Oriental Philology and Translation of the
Faculty of World Languages, is a unique project aimed at elevating the theory
and practice of translation in the country to a new qualitative level. The main
goal of this innovative structure is to advance integrative translation studies
and to train highly qualified specialists who meet international standards and
the demands of the time.
The opening ceremony of the laboratory was attended by
Vice-Rector for Strategy and Internationalization Aigul Iskakova, Vice-Rector
for Research and Innovation Ertay Sultan, Director of the Department for
Academic Affairs Zhanna Zhusupova, as well as prominent scholars and heads of
departments. During the event, it was particularly emphasized that this
facility is not merely a classroom, but an intellectual hub where theoretical
thought and practical solutions intersect, expanding the horizons of national science.
It should be noted that earlier, Chairman of the Board-Rector
Bolat Tilep emphasized the importance of establishing the Faculty of World
Languages as an independent structure separated from the Faculty of Philology.
According to Bolat Anapiyauly, this system takes language specialties beyond
the framework of classical humanities education and orients them toward global
competitiveness and applied fields.
Integrative translation studies is not merely the
transfer of a text from one language to another, but a complex process at the
intersection of linguistics, cultural studies, cognitive psychology, and the
capabilities of artificial intelligence. In this regard, the laboratory’s
activities will focus on analyzing advanced domestic and international
experience, organizing large-scale scientific conferences, and participating in
fundamental state and international grant projects. In addition, publishing the
research results of young scholars in high-ranking journals such as Scopus and
Web of Science, as well as aligning training content with the demands of the
modern labor market, are among the key objectives of the center.
In the future, a number of initiatives in these areas
are expected to be implemented. Integrative translation will not only prepare
future translators as language specialists, but will also serve as a golden
bridge of intercultural communication. It is expected that this center will
become a hub of scientific research and strengthen the connection between
national spirituality and public science.
