ACADEMICIAN MAMBET KOYGELDIEV AWARDED THE ORDER OF “BARYS” (SECOND CLASS)

Today, by the decree of the Head of State, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Head of the “Oral History” Research Center of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Mambet Koygeldiev, was awarded the Order of “Barys” (Second Class). The state award was presented by the Akim of Almaty, Darkhan Satybaldy, who also conveyed the congratulations of the President of the country.

March 5 marks the birthdays of prominent figures in the history of the nation. This year, the 160th anniversary of the birth of national leader Alikhan Bokeikhan coincides with the 80th anniversary of the distinguished scholar and researcher of the Alash movement, Academician Mambet Kulzhabayuly. On this occasion, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree awarding him the Order of “Barys” (Second Class) for his contribution to the development of national science and sent a congratulatory letter.

“Our people know and respect you as a wise mentor, a historian, a prominent public figure, and a devoted patriot. For more than half a century, you have dedicated your efforts to the development of national science. Working at leading educational institutions of the country, you have trained several generations of talented students,” the congratulatory message from the Head of State states.

After the ceremony at the Akimat, the academician was received by the Chairman of the Board-Rector of Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University, Bolat Tlep, who congratulated him on the state award and expressed his best wishes. He noted that the scholar had taught at the university for many years and had educated several generations of historians. The Rector also expressed his gratitude for his contribution to encouraging students’ dedication to research, perseverance, patriotism, and for training professional researchers.

– You are an outstanding figure who has made a significant contribution to the development of historical science in Kazakhstan, the renewal of historiographical approaches, and the new scientific interpretation of historical processes. Under your leadership, a large generation of scholars who have contributed greatly to the study of national history has been formed. I believe they will continue to develop the scientific directions that you established, – said Bolat Anapiyauly.

It should be noted that Mambet Kulzhabayuly is a Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Head of the “Oral History” Research Center at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University. Currently, on the initiative of the center, research on the history of Kazakhstan in the 19th–20th centuries is being conducted based on historical sources and archival materials, and several scholarly monographs have been published. The academician’s contribution to training young scholars and developing documentary historical research is truly invaluable.
