MAY 21 – CULTURE AND ARTS WORKERS’ DAY
The development of culture and the arts in Kazakhstan is directly connected with the country’s spiritual modernization. In this context, May 21 – Culture and Arts Workers’ Day – is one of the significant dates that highlights the importance of the creative sphere in society. This occasion not only recognizes the contribution of cultural and artistic professionals, but also defines the direction of the nation’s spiritual development.
In this regard, the role of creative education is especially important. One of Kazakhstan’s leading higher educational institutions, the Faculty of Arts at Abai University, is recognized as a creative school that has shaped the traditions of national art education and trained professional artists, designers, musicians, and choreographers. Since 1969, the faculty has educated several generations of specialists and made a substantial contribution to the development of national art.
The Department of Art Education prepares teachers in the fields of fine arts, graphics, and design. The educational process is aimed not only at developing professional skills, but also at fostering creative thinking and deepening artistic perception. The faculty’s multidisciplinary structure enables students to gain comprehensive knowledge in the field of arts. Programs in design, art education, music education, and choreography are integrated into a unified system that broadens students’ creative horizons.
Students receive support through state grants, scholarships, and international academic mobility programs. In addition, opportunities for academic exchange are available in Turkey, Germany, France, Poland, Lithuania, and other countries. Students of the Faculty of Arts actively participate in national and international competitions, exhibitions, and scientific-creative projects, achieving outstanding results. Their works are displayed at the university’s “Zhasampaz” gallery and other creative venues.
The faculty’s greatest spiritual asset is its graduates. Among them are Erbolat Tolepbay, Nelly Bube, Vladimir Vlasyuk, Batima Zaurbekova, Berikzhan Almukhambetov, Tokkozha Kozhagulyov, Zholaushy Turdygulov, Bolat Atamkulov, Nurlan Kilibayev, Zhenis Nurlybayev, Muratbek Nurlybayev, Bolat Baizhigitov, and many other distinguished figures. Today, the Faculty of Arts combines academic traditions with modern educational technologies to prepare competitive specialists in the arts. Digital and innovative methods are widely applied in the educational process.
Current students continue to achieve success in national and international competitions, exhibitions, and research projects, enhancing the faculty’s creative reputation. In particular, the “Abai” student choir is one of the faculty’s active creative groups, winning awards at various competitions and festivals and performing on national and international stages.
In
